Alexandra Hjortswang started playing the violin at age 5 learning through the Suzuki method in the Suzuki organisation in Malmö. 4 years later Johan Åkesson, then Director Musices at Lund University, became her teacher and she soon joined the orchestras Cappella Lundensis and Lund University Orchestra. After one year of studies with Alexander Fischer Alexandra continued her studies for him at the Academy of Music in Malmö. Fice years later she took her master’s degree and continued her studies at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London for professor Erich Gruenberg with the help of scholarships from RAM, Sparbanksstiftelsen Skåne and Musikaliska Akademien. 2009 Alexandra made her final recital and received a distinction as well as a DipRAM.
Alexandra has also had lessons with celebrated violinists such as Helge Slaatto, Viktor Tretjakov, Tibor Varga and Thomas Brandis. Alexandra has performed as a soloist on a number of occasions with orchestras such as Southbank Sinfonia, Lunds City Orchestra, DR UngdomsEnsemblet, Nordic Youth Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Malmö and the New Years Symphony Orchestra in Lund. She has worked with musicians such as Gilles Apap, Sir Colin Davis, Luca Francesconi, Stefan Solyom and Matthew Trusler. Together with DR UngdomsEnsemblet, led by Morten Ryelund, she has made several radio and studio recordings, both as concert master and soloist.
After several years as an orchestra musician and instructor Alexandra has lately also started working as a conductor with among others the Lund New Years Symphony Orchestra, Nordic Youth Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra 2001.
